For years they lived one next to the other. A man-made berm separated them. They knew about each other, they could hear their adjoining silence, and sometimes the gentle breeze would reveal an attractive but familiar scent from the other side of the fence.  Heavy rain made a surgical incision on their protective boundary letting brine and crystals blend interchanging their blues, whites and warm grays. “Very nice to finally meet you!”, they said.
